The Columbia Flyway Show has been a labor of love for Vancouver, Washington’s Feather and Quill Carvers since 1988. The show as progressed from meager beginnings in the Columbia Art Center, a converted old church basement, to motel conference rooms, and at last, to the City of Vancouver’s Water Resources Education Center overlooking the Columbia River.

It has become one of the premier wildlife carving shows in the country as a result of the dedication of a small group of carvers and artists as well as membership in the International Wildfowl Carvers Association. Carvers come from all over the U.S. and Canada to participate in the competition and to share with and learn from other carvers and artists.

The spacious showroom provides a dynamic area for display of the carvings. There is a hospitality room for conversations and light snacks. In addition, the fountain at the entrance provides a great place to float hunting decoys which are carved to resemble the live birds. Activities are ongoing all day– seminars in the mornings and demonstrations throughout the day. Vendors sell carving and painting supplies in the atrium.

The banquet is held in the showroom on Saturday evening. There is good food, fun, and fellowship as well as the Cocktail Bird contest. After dinner the auction begins. A wonderful evening in a beautiful setting!

The venue is picture perfect with every amenity for a show that focuses on wildlife art. Plan, if you are in the region, to attend for a destination experience you won’t forget. Better yet, simply plan an outing to enjoy this beautiful art work.
